06/19/2019 – HOT HOMETOWNS on KK93

Saturday, June 22nd there is a girls league softball tournament in town for the t-ball age group. The tournament will run from 9:00 to 4:00 and there will be concessions available.

Monday, June 24th the baseball t-ball group will be having their league tournament in Crofton. Games will be played Monday night 5:30 to 8:30.

Eastern Township Library’s Summer Reading Program kicked off this month. Join the library every Wednesday from 10 to 11am this summer for stories, crafts, games, and prizes.

Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area, June 28th-30th, 2019:

Friday, June 28th: 1:00 pm Water Bugs – take part in a fun morning of catching and learning about the bugs found in Nebraska’s lakes and streams. Meet at the Park Office.

Saturday, June 29th: 8:00am Guided Bird Walk – join the park naturalist for a guided bird identification walk. Meet at the swim beach; 2:30pm Power of Pollinators – learn all about all the different types of pollinators in Nebraska and find out why they are so important to us. Meet at the Park Office.

Sunday, June 30th: 2:00pm Nature Walk – join the park naturalist for a scenic nature walk through the South Shore walking trails. Make sure to wear good shoes and bring bug spray. Meet at the South Shore Trail Head.

Lewis  Clark State Recreation Area Red, White, and Blue Weekend, July 4th-7th, 2019:
Thursday, July 4th: 11am-12pm Arts and Crafts – Join the park naturalist for a Fourth of July themed craft. Meet at Weigand Shelter. $1 per craft. 2:00-3:00pm Critter Corner – Join the park naturalist in looking at different types of animals living in Nebraska, and even learn how to identify their tracks. Meet at the Weigand Shelter.
Friday, July 5th: 11am Nature Scavenger Hunt – Have fun while learning by taking part in a nature scavenger hunt with the park naturalist. Meet at the swim beach. 9:00pm Outdoor Movie – Join the park staff in watching an outdoor movie. The movie will be The Sandlot. The movie will be located near the Weigand Shelter. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on. Concessions will be available at the shelter.
Saturday, July 6th: 10:00am-12:00pm Kayaking – Join the park staff for a fun morning of kayaking. You must be 10 years old to kayak alone; if you are under 10, you must be with an adult. Meet at the Burbach Jetty. 4:30pm Backyard Bingo – Come take part in a fun afternoon of backyard bingo playing. It’s just like regular bingo, but outdoor themed. $1 per person. Meet at the Weigand Shelter. 8:30pm-10:30pm Themed, Lighted Hayrack Ride – themed lighted hayrack ride around the park. Tickets can be bought at Wiegand Marina. $3 per person.

Movies at the Marina, Summer 2019: Movies will be shown near the Weigand Shelter and they will begin around 9:00pm each night. Concessions will be available, free admission to the movie, bring a blanket or chair to sit on. Movies and dates: July 5th – The Sandlot, July 19th – The Bee Movie, August 16th – Robots, August 31st – The Goonies

Senior Center News:
Bingo Mondays and Fridays.
June 19th is the birthday and Bingo party at 1:00.
The Senior Center will be closed on July 4th.
Sunday, July 7th, the Senior Center will be having a salad luncheon from 11am to 1pm.
The caregivers support group meets at the Senior Center on July 10th at 1:30.

Healing Hope Ministries presents the Walk to Remember on Sunday, June 23rd from 5-7pm at the city auditorium. Check in at 5pm, walk begins at 5:30pm, and meal and raffle from 6 to 7pm. T shirt orders are due by May 31st. Go to www.healinghopes.com. This walk is to honor and remember children gone too soon and to build communities to support one another.

The annual baseball and fireworks with the Crofton Bluejays playing the Wynot Expos is scheduled for July 3rd at 7:30pm.

The Crofton Class of 1974 is hosting the 54th annual Crofton High School Alumni Banquet on Saturday, July 6th at St. Rose Hall. Social time is at 5pm and Dinner and short program will follow at 7pm. It is not too late to register! Forms are available at People’s Grocery.

Start your training, and get your teams together for the second annual Crofton’s Dam Race, scheduled for July 27th. It’s a new triathlon at Lewis & Clark Lake. Competitors kayak 1.5 miles on the lake, run a 5K through the Weigand Campground, and bike 12 miles into downton Crofton for a BBQ celebration. Individual participants or teams are welcome! New this year are a half marathon, 5K, and a 12-mile bike ride as individual events. Register at www.allsportscentral.com.

Main Street Treasures is a non-profit thrift store operated by volunteers. The store sells clothing, housewares, small furniture, small appliances, lawn & garden items, toys, baby stuff, hunting accessories, and other items. Proceeds benefit the Crofton area. Main Street Treasures is open Wednesdays 10am to 8pm, Thursdays and Fridays, 10am to 6pm, Saturdays 10am to 2pm, and the first Sunday of the month 10am to 1pm.
